Ruth E. Venning

Director, Investor Relations
Hospira, Inc.


Ruth Venning is director of Investor Relations for Hospira, Inc. (NYSE: HSP), a $4 billion company specializing in generic injectable pharmaceuticals and medication infusion systems. In addition to communicating with the investment community, Ms. Venning is responsible for institutional targeting, proxy outreach efforts, retail shareholder relations, the production of Hospira's annual report and other investor communication vehicles, including Hospira's investor relations website.

Before joining Hospira in 2006, Ms. Venning was director of Corporate Relations for Telephone and Data Systems, Inc., where she managed corporate communications and investor relations. Prior to that, she was with United Airlines for five years in a financial communications and investor relations capacity. Before joining United Airlines, she directed corporate communications for Calamos Asset Management, a Chicago-area investment management firm. Ms. Venning began her career in international public relations, working primarily for the Japanese government in Japan.

During her career in investor relations, Ms. Venning has produced 17 annual reports on or under budget and received two ARC and five Triad Awards. She spearheaded Hospira's adoption of the Notice & Access distribution model for the 2009 proxy season, a move which reduced the company's proxy-related expenses by 19 percent. She also launched the company's proxy outreach program.

Ms. Venning holds a master's of business administration in Finance from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management as well as a master's degree in corporate communications from Northwestern University, and a bachelor's degree in Japanese studies from Earlham College. She co-teaches a class on Investor Relations for Northwestern University's Integrated Marketing Communications graduate program. An active member of the NIRI Chicago chapter, Ms. Venning has served in several capacities on the NIRI-Chicago board of directors since 2004, including as the board's president in 2007 and chairman in 2008.
